The Cut-up Method | Amor Fati

This week’s video is a new installment in my “cut-up method” series. The cut-up method was popularized by the infamous beat generation writer William S. Burroughs. This technique involves quite literally cutting up pieces of text or photographs and rearranging them back together at random.

Burroughs was originally inspired to do this by his friend, surrealist painter Brion Gysin, and it became a mainstay of his work for the rest of his life.

In this episode I get a little unconventional (something Burroughs would most certainly have appreciated!) in my interpretation of what constitutes “the cut-up method.”

Join me and follow along as I walk you through the entire process of creating my new image, “Amor Fati,” from inspiration to shoot to bringing it all together in Photoshop.
